In the final seconds, pure elation broke out for Chelsea and interim manager Calum McFarlane as Enzo Fernández stabbed home a last-gasp equaliser. The goal left Pep Guardiola in a state of despair and gifted the temporary Chelsea manager a career-defining moment. On paper, Guardiola versus McFarlane could be billed as the Premier League's greatest managerial mismatch, making the memory of Fernández's crucial intervention one to warm the 40-year-old for years to come.

A Stark Contrast in Pedigree

On the City bench stood the generation's pre-eminent figure, a man with four decades of silverware for football's giants Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, taking charge of his 1,012th match.
